The Washington Post Company and TCI Complete Trade of Cable Systems

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Post Company and Tele-Communications, Inc. (TCI) announced today that Cable ONE, Inc., The Washington Post Company's cable subsidiary, and TCI American Cable Holdings II, L.P., a subsidiary of TCI, have completed the trade of the assets of certain cable television systems.

Cable ONE has acquired TCI's assets serving approximately 62,000 customers in Biloxi/Ocean Springs, MS; Moorhead, MN; and Sayre, Cordell, Duncan, Purcell, Hugo, Marietta, and Fort Sill, OK. TCI has acquired the assets of Cable ONE's systems serving approximately 41,000 customers in the north Chicago suburb of Highland Park and the California communities of Burlingame and Union City.

"This trade furthers our strategy to operate primarily in mid-sized, non-urban markets and to expand the business in concentrated geographic areas," said Alan G. Spoon, president of The Washington Post Company.

Cable ONE now serves approximately 635,000 subscribers in 16 states.

The Washington Post Company is a diversified media organization whose principal operations include newspaper and magazine publishing, broadcasting, and cable television systems. The company also produces electronic information services, provides test preparation, education, and career services, and offers online information covering federal and state legislative and regulatory activity.
