Wallace R. Cooney Elected Controller Of The Washington Post Company
WASHINGTON – The Washington Post Company (NYSE: WPO) announced today that Wallace R. Cooney has been elected controller. He succeeds Matthew C. Seelye, who has joined Quest Education, a unit of Kaplan, Inc., as vice president and chief financial officer. Kaplan is a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company.
Cooney, 38, was director of consolidation accounting and financial reporting at Gannett from July 1997 to October 2001. From 1994 to 1997 he was a senior manager at Price Waterhouse LLP, which he joined as a member of the audit staff in 1985.
Cooney received a bachelor of economics and business degree from Lafayette College. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
Cooney and his wife, Catherine, have three children.
