WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 2006--Veronica Dillon will be named vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of The Washington Post Company (NYSE:WPO). She will assume her new position on January 2, 2007, after the retirement of Diana M. Daniels, who has served the Company as vice president and general counsel since 1988 and added the role of corporate secretary in 1991.

Dillon has been chief administrative officer and chief legal officer of Kaplan, Inc., the education division of The Washington Post Company, since 2003. She added vice chairman to her duties in April 2006. Formerly she served as Kaplan's general counsel; in that role she oversaw the acquisition of 30 companies in the U.S. and abroad. Dillon joined Kaplan in February 1991 as corporate counsel.

From 1982 through 1990, Dillon was assistant general counsel at Macmillan, Inc. She had served as a staff attorney at the New York Regional Office of the Federal Trade Commission from 1980 to 1982, with responsibility for consumer protection and antitrust matters.

Dillon received a B.A. from St. Johns in 1971 and taught at the Commander Shea School in Manhattan for two years. After graduating from Fordham Law School in 1976, she was an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett for four years.
