GAITHERSBURG, Md.--March 1, 2001--The Gazette, a unit of The Washington Post Company (NYSE:WPO), announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Southern Maryland Newspapers from Chesapeake Publishing Corporation, Elkton, MD. The purchase price was not disclosed.
