Buffett, Burke Elected Directors of The Washington Post Company

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Post Company announced today that Warren E. Buffett and Daniel B. Burke have been elected to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Buffett is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. He also is a director of The Coca-Cola Company, The Gillette Company, and Salomon Inc. He previously served as a director of The Washington Post Company from 1974 until 1986. Berkshire Hathaway Inc. owns 1,727,765 Class B shares of The Washington Post Company, or 18.8 percent of the class.

Daniel B. Burke served as president and chief executive officer of Capital Cities/ABC, Inc., from 1990 until his retirement in February 1994. Previously, he was president and chief operating officer of Cap Cities/ABC since 1972. Mr. Burke also is a director of Consolidated Rail Corporation, Darden Restaurants, Inc., Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc., and Rohm and Haas Company.
