Vice President and General Manager, WJXT–Jacksonville
Bob Ellis was named vice president and general manager of WJXT in March 2009. Before joining WJXT, Ellis had been news director of WDIV, the Graham Media Group station in Detroit, since 2007 and assistant news director since 2002. Previously, he served in many other roles in the news department, including executive producer of special projects, investigative producer and sports producer. For more than a decade, he was the point person for WDIV’s coverage of Detroit’s big events, overseeing the station’s coverage of elections, Red Wings and Pistons championship parades and over 20 hours of live news coverage during Super Bowl XL in Detroit. He has been with Graham Media Group (formerly Post-Newsweek Stations) since 1995.
Ellis has been honored with ten Emmy Awards, and awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Michigan Associated Press. During his tenure as assistant news director, WDIV received a 2003 Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence and a 2003 Murrow Award for Best Newscast in the Midwest region.
Ellis is a Michigan native and holds a BA in telecommunications from Michigan State University.
He and his wife, Melanie, have a daughter and a son.
